ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety

Protect your people and your business with a legally-aligned Occupational Health & Safety management system, audited to international standard.

ISO 45001 is the international standard for Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management Systems, replacing the older OHSAS 18001. It sets out a framework for identifying hazards, controlling risk, and continually improving workplace health and safety performance, with strong emphasis on worker participation and top-management accountability.

In South Africa, ISO 45001 works alongside (not instead of) your legal obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and, where relevant, the Mine Health and Safety Act. Certification demonstrates to clients, insurers, and regulators that your safety management is systematic rather than reactive.

Andreas Burger Consulting, led by an ISO 45001 Lead Auditor with a NEBOSH International Diploma, builds OH&S systems that work on the shop floor as well as on paper.

After certification: an OH&S system relies on incident management, CAPA and SOPs being followed on the shop floor. DynamicERMS, built by our technology partner Dynatek, has dedicated Safety, CAPA and Work Order modules for exactly this.

FAQ

Common questions about ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety

No. The OHS Act is the legal requirement; ISO 45001 certification is voluntary but gives you a systematic, auditable way to manage and evidence that compliance, and is increasingly requested by principal contractors and tender issuers.

A Safety File is typically a compliance-document set for a specific site or contract. ISO 45001 is a full management system covering policy, risk assessment, objectives, internal audit, management review and continual improvement. It operates across your whole organisation, not just one project.

ISO 45001 explicitly places accountability with top management as well as the safety officer, one of its key differences from older standards. We build that accountability structure into the system from the start.

No. ABC is not a Certification Body and does not issue certificates. We implement and prepare you for audit; independent accredited bodies certify. That separation, required under ISO/IEC 17021-1, protects the integrity of your certificate.
